Beer is not only a beverage, but also an ingredient or a seasoning in many, often very refined, dishes. The most popular beer-based dishes are soups. One of them—eaten by elderly ladies at breakfast—is described in Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz. Beer is often used in preparing fish and roasted meat dishes, and can replace milk and water in pancakes and omelettes.

The main flour-based dishes which use beer are pancakes, for which beer can replace the milk. Beer may be an ingredient in pasta sauces, and can replace the oils used in fried dishes. Finally, beer may be used in all kinds of salads and pastas, served either as a separate meal or forming part of larger and more elaborate dishes.
